Neuseeländisches Farnholz

 

In Neuseeland wachsen bis zu 20m hohe Baumfarne. Die Stämme der „cyathea medullaris“ oder „Mamaku“ genannten Art können durch Hohlbohren und Trocknen zu einem holzartigen Material mit unglaublichen, fast surrealen, natürlichen Texturen verarbeitet werden.

Mit diesem sehr empfindlichen und brüchigen Material habe ich experimentiert und es mit Kunstharz infiltriert, um daraus Schmuck zu fertigen.

In New Zealand tree ferns grow up to 20m high. The trunks of the "cyathea medullaris" or "mamaku" species can be processed by hollow drilling and drying. A woody material with incredible, almost surreal, natural textures is the impressive outcome.
I experimented with this very fragile and brittle material and infiltrated it with synthetic resin to design jewelry out of it.
